Independence Day: Paying Homage to Our Heroes
In his famed speech on the eve of Independence Day, 'A Tryst with Destiny', our first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru said, "And to India, our much-loved motherland, the ancient, the eternal and the ever-new, we pay our reverent homage and we bind ourselves afresh to her service.”
It was this sense of patriotism and duty that could be sensed in the atmosphere in DPS Noida during the celebrations for the 70th Independence Day. The weather could not have been better, the sky was a clear blue and a light wind was blowing as the students and the teachers paid homage to their country.
The programme started with a prayer and thought for the day recited by Anushka Bhatnagar. The National flag was unfurled by our esteemed Principal, Mrs. KaaminiBhasin. The students took part in an impressive march past . It was aimpressive to see, the tri-colour fluttering in the breeze and the melodious sounds of students and teachers singing the National Anthem zealously.The school choir presented patriotic songs like ‘Vatan Ki Shaan Ho’ and 'VandeMatram'. The students of Jhelum and Ravi house,the winners of the Inter House Dance competition then enthralled the audience with their eclectic performance on the theme, National Integration. The talented singers of Jhelum and Ganges house,who were the winners of the folk song competition, regaled the audience with a foot tapping performance.The hostellersperformed a beautiful medley of patriotic songs, as well as a dance to the song ‘Rang de Basanti’. In her address, the Principal, Mrs. KaaminiBhasin spoke about the importance of staying united even though our diversities may be many.It was truly a wonderful day
